Life at The Card Home

The Card Home has so much to offer its residents. No more cooking and cleaning – it’s all about helping you enjoy your retirement years. We have both male and female residents. The following amenities are included at The Card Home: Dining – Residents receive three meals a day, all home-cooked in our kitchen by our Certified Cooks, and served in our sunny dining room, where large windows provide a view of the outdoors. The meals are provided on the following schedule:

Breakfast 8:00 a.m.
Dinner (main meal) noon
Supper 5:00

morning_coffee_w-JoeyWe also offer a mid-morning coffee snack and a mid-afternoon beverage, cookies, crackers or ice cream. There is always a snack table in the dining room with fresh fruit, small cakes or cookies, and regular and sugar-free candies. Residents are expected to go down to the dining room for meals. Meals are served in the rooms only to those who are temporarily ill or incapacitated. Residents who like to sleep in have the option of going down mid-morning for coffee and pastries. Each month, we send out one night for pizza and one night for KFC – it is the choice of the residents. This is decided at the Regular Resident Council Meetings.

Activities & Entertainment – The Card Home offers many varied types of activities and entertainment. Participation, of course, is entirely optional, as the emphasis at the Home is on independent living, and residents are free to do exactly as they choose. We strive to have something for everyone – here are just a few examples:

  • Bi-monthly birthday parties at a local restaurant
  • Bingo – twice a week
  • Exercise – every morning
  • Scrabble
  • Card Games
  • Trivial Pursuit
  • Movies
  • Travelogues
  • Religious services – twice a month (Catholic & Methodist)
  • Various entertainment brought in to the Home

Transportation & Parking – we offer safe parking for residents who drive and want their car available to them. We offer free transportation weekly for the residents to go shopping, to local events or restaurants. In addition, we can assist them with access to taxis and Dial-a-Ride.

SecurityThe Card Home offers 24/7 security. In addition to the facility being locked, every resident is offered Life Alert participation.

Health Care – As The Card Home is not an assisted living or skilled nursing facility, we do not have medical personnel on staff. However, knowing that our residents will occasionally become ill, we have Visiting Nurse services from Hartford Health Care available to our residents when needed.

Religious ServicesThe Card Home offers Catholic Church Communion every Thursday. There is a Methodist minister who provides a
service on the third Thursday of each month.Sitting_Rooms

Sitting RoomsThe Card Home offers comfortable sitting and lounge areas for entertaining guests, visiting with fellow residents, or just enjoying a good book.

Library/TV RoomThe Card Home offers a lovely Library/TV Room for residents.  We are fortunate that the Willimantic Public Library regularly delivers books to The Card Home so that our selection is continually changing.  This room also features a large TV where residents gather to watch movies or sports.
